Swimming pool

The pool is open from the start of May to the end of September. Someone comes weekly while it is open to backflush the filter, clean, etc.

The pool box and pool furniture are stored in the hay loft when the house is closed. The pool box contains various pool related tools including a robot for cleaning the pool between visits by the pool guy.

In the gazebo are three power outlets and two light switches (for pool lights and the gazebo light).

Take care using the pool’s shower as the water in the column can get very hot. It is best to adjust the temperature before use. If you have sunscreen on, please use the shower before entering the pool. We are told the sunscreen washes off and discolours the pool liner.

Please try not to bring dust and debris from the garden into the pool area. If needs be, you can hose down the tiles with the garden hose which can be attached to the tap near the shower. Please hose the dust and debris to the outer edges of the tiles area (not into the pool).

To run the robot

  • Remove the robot and its controller from the pool box
  • Plug the controller into one of the power outlets in the gazebo
  • Plug the robot into the controller
  • Drop the robot into the water ensuring there are no tangles in the power cable
  • Using the controller, select the program (floor only or floor and sides) and press start
  • When the program has finished, the robot comes to a halt
  • To remove the robot from the water, pull gently on the power cable until the robot can be reached. Do NOT use the power cable to pull it out of the water
  • Remove the robot from the water by its handle
  • Open the top of the robot and remove the filters (there are 2 – one inside the other)
  • Clean the filters by flushing with water
  • Return the filters to the robot
  • Return the robot and its controller to the pool box

To clean the pool manually

  • Attach the cleaner tool from the pool box to the pole
  • Attach the hose from the pool box to the tool
  • Open the centre skimmer’s lid and remove the strainer
  • Submerge the tool and then push the remainder of the hose into the water until all the air is forced out
  • Connect the free end of the hose to the hole in the centre skimmer (keep the end pointing down to avoid air returning to the hose)
  • Open the lid of the pool plant’s box
  • The power unit has a switch with three positions (automatic, off and manual). Switch it to manual
  • Close skimmers 1 and 3
  • Clean the pool by pushing the cleaning head gently round the floor of the pool
  • Pull the tool out of the water and remove the hose from the skimmer
  • Return the strainer and close the skimmer port
  • Open skimmers 1 and 3
  • Return the power switch to automatic and close the lid of the box
  • Return the cleaner tool and hose to the pool box making sure not to get them dirty
