Entrance, stairwell and landing

The stairwell from ground to second floor was rather shabby. The steps were disintegrating somewhat: an old attempt at resurfacing was breaking up. Every time we knocked the walls moving furniture another bit of plaster would be knocked off. It needed a bit of TLC.

Halfway up it has an unusal set of sliding doors which we have come to like a lot and will keep (not least to help keep the warmth on the first floor from dissipating).

We also wanted to construct an entrance vestibule inside the front door so that you go through two sets of doors before getting to the ingresso. This would stop quite so much dust from the street blowing in and provide a space for hanging coats. We decided to repurpose the doors from the ingresso to the games room for this in order to save money.
