First floor bathroom

When we bought the house, this room had been used as a kind of office space and contained a piano. When we had all the unwanted furniture removed, it was not possible to get the piano out through the door into the narrow hallway. We used the room for storage, but planned to turn it into a bathroom. It would be larger than the existing one next door and could accomodate a decent sized bath as well as a separate shower.

There were some problems to overcome:

  • We didn’t want a piano in the bathroom.
  • The stud partition wall to the corridor was not firmly fixed.
  • The floor was not strong enough to support a bath full of water.

The first two could be solved by removing and rebuilding the wall between the room and the hallway. The second by reinforcing the floor from the cantina below. We also agreed to have a step up into this room so that the plumbing could run between a new higher floor and the existing one.
