Ground floor bathroom

On the ground floor we had a rather poky bathroom off a small corridor that led from the stairway to a strange room containing a washing machine and a hot water tank. In the corridor was a very old and dodgy looking set of trip switches. There was a step up from the corridor into the bathroom.

We decided to increase the size of the bathroom by removing the wall between it and the corridor. To achieve that, the floor of the bathroom and the corridor would need to be dug down to the level of the floor in the stairwell and the electrical plant would need to be moved. To get a sensible flow and avoid a step down into this bathroom, we also needed to dig a part of the floor in the stairway down to the same level.

The room beyond, would become our technical room containing hot water tank, electrical stuff, etc. Given we would rarely go there, the door to it could be simple (and probably mirrored).

As purchased

Wall to be removed

Demolished and floor dug for increased height

Lowered section of hall floor reinstated

Tiled

A bit of a drain issue

The blockage was cleared from inside as the most useful drain cover was hidden by debris from the facade renovation.

All done – pictures needed
